Winkler History – Family Owned and Operated
In 1946, Fred Winkler opened a painting business based on quality. The business basis remains true today. The key to enduring quality is a hands-on approach of teaching the trade to painters.
Since the start, Winkler and Sons has consistently been Ames’ largest painting contractor. Three generations and four Winklers have owned the business. A Winkler and Sons ownership timeline is:
| 1946 | – | Fred Winkler opens painting business in Ames. |
| 1950 | – | Jack Winkler (Fred’s son) starts work. |
| 1951 | – | Mike Winkler (Fred’s son) starts working. Jack and Mike eventually own business with Fred. |
| 1966 | – | Fred Winkler and Sons moves to current paint shop on Florida Avenue (northwest Ames). |
| 1978 | – | Fred Winkler retires – Mike and Jack own business. |
| 1980 | – | Karl Winkler (Jack’s son) starts work. |
| 1984 | – | Fred Winker passes away. |
| 2000 | – | Mike Winkler passes away. Jack and Karl own business, which is true today. |
